Why Fall Is Such a Special Time for Family Photos in St. Marys, Ohio
There is just something about fall that makes me want to grab my camera and photograph everything. 🤎🍂
The changing leaves, the warm golden light, the cozy colors, and that little feeling that the seasons are changing all around us. Fall has a way of reminding us just how quickly time passes, and I think that's one of the reasons I love photographing families so much during this time of year.
As a family photographer based in St. Marys, Ohio, I get to see so many beautiful moments throughout the year. But there is something especially meaningful about capturing families surrounded by all the beauty that fall brings to our little corner of Ohio.
The Beauty of Fall in West Central Ohio
One of my favorite things about photographing in this area is that we have so many beautiful places to explore. From the changing trees and open fields to peaceful nature preserves and favorite local spots, there are so many ways to create photographs that feel personal to your family.
Whether we're photographing around St. Marys, exploring a spot near Celina or Wapakoneta, or traveling somewhere new, I love finding locations that make each session feel a little different.
And honestly? We don't need a perfectly styled location for beautiful photos. Sometimes the simplest settings, beautiful light, and genuine moments are all we need.
Your Kids Won't Stay This Little Forever
I know we've all heard it before: They grow up so fast.
But it's true.
One minute, you're chasing a toddler around, and before you know it, you're helping your senior get ready for graduation. The little hands become bigger hands. The silly smiles change. Their personalities grow, and the everyday moments you barely think twice about today eventually become the things you wish you could go back and experience one more time.
That's why I believe family photography is about so much more than getting everyone to look at the camera and smile.
It's about remembering who your family was in this season of life.
Maybe your little one is missing a few teeth. Maybe your kids are in that stage where they can't stop laughing at each other. Maybe life feels a little chaotic right now, and getting everyone together for pictures feels like one more thing on your to-do list.
Those moments are worth remembering, too.
Your family doesn't have to be perfect. Your kids don't have to behave perfectly. And you certainly don't have to look like you've stepped out of a magazine.
I want you to look back at your photographs years from now and remember how it felt to be right here, right now.
You Don't Have to Know How to Pose
One of the things I hear from people is that they feel awkward in front of a camera or worry their kids won't cooperate.
I completely understand! Being photographed can feel uncomfortable, especially if you're used to being the one behind the camera taking pictures of everyone else.
That's why I work to keep my sessions relaxed, fun, and encouraging. I'll help guide you when you need direction, but I also leave room for the natural moments to happen.
The laughter, the hugs, the little in-between moments, and even the silly things your kids do when they think nobody is watching can become some of your favorite photographs.
You don't need to show up knowing exactly what to do. That's what I'm here for!
What Should You Wear for Fall Family Photos?
Fall is a wonderful time to incorporate warm, earthy colors and textures into your outfits.
Some colors I love seeing for fall sessions include:
- Cream, ivory, and warm beige
- Rust, burgundy, and muted mustard
- Olive and forest green
- Brown, tan, and other earthy neutrals
- Denim paired with soft, coordinating colors
You don't have to match everyone perfectly. In fact, choosing colors that complement one another often creates a more natural, timeless look.
Think cozy sweaters, simple layers, and outfits that allow you to move comfortably. Most importantly, choose clothing that feels like you.
If you're unsure what to wear, don't stress! I'm always happy to help you think through outfit ideas before your session.
Let's Make Some Fall Memories
If you've been thinking about scheduling family photos, consider this your little reminder that you don't have to wait for a special occasion.
You don't need a birthday, an anniversary, or a big milestone to deserve photographs of your family.
Sometimes, simply being together is reason enough.
I know life gets busy. Between work, school, activities, and everything else that fills our days, photographs can easily get pushed to the bottom of the list. But these seasons of life are happening right now, and one day, you'll be grateful you took the time to preserve them.
I'm proud to serve families in St. Marys and throughout West Central Ohio, and I'm always happy to explore new locations when you have somewhere special in mind.
If you're ready to capture your family's story, I'd love to help you create photographs you'll treasure for years to come.
Let's create your forever memories. 🤎
